Now for the TEST

Complete this by our next meeting.  I'm reminding you again that you do NOT need to memorize the material.  Just continue to absorb what you can.  Continue digging deeper by answering the questions.  Continue regularly reviewing your laminated "exam notes" card as well. 
 
*Parents - it's time to schedule the CLEP exam for three to four weeks from now.  Use the link about the "test" on the toolbar.

**This week we will be doing the first practice test...details below
 
1) Read 20 pages of the Sociology Super Review by REA.  Again, continue taking notes as you read, using an outline method, as this will help you to remember.  You guys are doing an excellent job!
 
2) Make vocabulary flash cards on any special sociology terms in the above reading assignment.  Your flashcards should be written so that the word is on the front of the card and the definition is on the back of the card, so you can quiz yourself later.
 
3) Read pages 40-50 of the REA Intro to Sociology book.  I know this is a lot, but we need to get everything wrapped up in three remaining weeks.  Don't obsess about note taking in the REA, as most of this is review from the other readings.  Take notes on things that are new or difficult for you in the reading.
 
4)  Briefly answer the following questions.  All the answers were in this weeks first reading assignment.  Write the answers on a sheet of paper and bring it to class for review again.  Thanks! 
 
-Name the two types of socialization listed. 
 
-What is it called when you adopt new behavioral practices and reject old ones?
 
-How are people different than animals sociologically? 
 
-What challenges have come to society as a result of genetic engineering?
 
5) I want you guys to try the first practice test in the book and report your success at our next meeting.  The test is on page 78 of the REA book.  Use the answer key after the test and go over the "detailed explanations of answers" for the questions you missed.  **IMPORTANT** - The purpose of the practice tests are to lead you into deeper study by reviewing the correct answers for those questions you missed.  You will find that after each practice test and subsequent search for the correct answers, you become better equipt for the actual exam.  Do NOT become concerned if you fail the practice exam - look for improvement as you go. 
 
At our next meeting we will:
-review all flashcards and complete any missing definitions
-review the questions from the previous weeks assignments
-review the practice test results 
-will answer your own questions
-will view more of the video tape
